Historical data
Tignanello is produced exclusively from the vineyard of the same name which is located at Tenuta Tignanello on a land of
57 hectares facing south-west, of calcareous origin with tuffaceous elements, at an altitude of 350 and 400 meters above sea level.
It was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barrique, the first modern red wine blended with non-varieties
traditional, such as Cabernet, and among the red primivini in Chiantia do not use white grapes. Tignanello, originally
"Chianti Classico Riservavigneto Tignanello" was vinified for the first time from a single vineyard with the vintage
1970, when it contained 20% of Canaiolo and 5% of Trebbiano and Malvasia, and was aged in small
oak. With the 1971 vintage it became a Tuscan date wine, it was called Tignanello and with the 1975 vintage
the white grapes have been totally eliminated. Since 1982 the composition has remained unchanged. Tignanello comes
produced only in the best years; was not produced in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1984, 1992 and 2002.
Tasting Notes
Tignanello 2016 is in full harmony with the vintage. Intense ruby red, for some aspects, lively. On the nose the notes of
ripe red fruit combine with pleasant hints of fresh blackberry and wild berries. Delicate and perfectly integrated
aromas of vanilla, bitter chocolate and light spices. On the palate it is vibrant, with silky and refined tannins.
Balanced and intense with a long, complex and persistent finish.
