Solaia is a vineyard of about 20 hectares facing south-west between 350 and 400 meters above sea level. on a rocky limestone soil with alberese and galestro rock, located at Tenuta Tignanello. The Antinori family produced this wine for the first time with the 1978 vintage; the initial blend was 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, which was repeated in 1979. In subsequent years a 20% Sangiovese was introduced and some corrections were made in the ratio between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, up to get to the current composition. Solaia is only produced in exceptional vintages and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984 and 1992.

spettacolare viaggio in toscana

Winemaker's Notes

A vintage of extraordinary value, characterized by a cooler climate and light rain compared to the 2015 vintage.

A season in which the balance of a land is reflected in the wine. A harmonious expression of Solaia with multiple shades. A slightly more timid, introverted wine, in some ways even more fascinating, compared to the previous vintage, but capable of saying to itself now as in the years to come.

Flavor notes

With a very intense ruby red color, Solaia 2016 stands out on the nose for its intensity and aromatic richness; Notes of ripe black fruits, particularly blackberries and blueberries, are combined with balsamic sensations of aromatic herbs and mint; Sweet hints of cocoa and cotton candy alternate with spicy notes of white pepper, giving the bouquet freshness and complexity. In the mouth it is rich and enveloping with soft and silky tannins capable of transmitting elegance, character and an excellent expression of the fruit. Vibrant, long and very persistent finish reveals remarkable aging potential
